Fun is the only word to describe the weekend I had at ColossalCon. Waterpark+Safari+Cosplay = AMAZING
A suite filled with lovely friends always sweetens the deal, especially if Disney sing-a-longs are involved.
Here's a blog breakdown since there is so much to talk about: the Venue, the Safari, the Convention & Cosplay, and Quality time with friends.

The Venue - Kalahari Resort

Picture
It is in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by corn fields and a good drive away from Cleveland, the nearest city. It was quite the adventure for me to get there. A 5.5hrs bus ride to Toronto, then a 6hrs+ drive to Sandusky, Ohio. Luckily there are some nearby stores, so you can stock up on food for the weekend and avoid the lineups.

The waterparks are amazing. There is one outside meant for lounging and for the kids to play. The indoor park is very humid but it had many slides, water basketball, a lazy river, a wave pool, a surf simulator, and a hot tub with a bar you can swim to.

Everything is African themed: straw roofs on all the little stands, savanna grass around the venue, lion statues, masks on the wall, murals and the like. It was also nice to see a convention with seating, there were couches everywhere.

The Safari

A side attraction of the convention was the little safari zoo. There were lots of adorable animal to interact with, from goats to kangaroos and giraffes. Admission was a cheap $5 but food for feeding was expensive.
There were also camel and pony rides, as well as a bird feeding cage, at an extra cost.

The Convention & Cosplay

Picture
I did not spend much time at the convention, but that is expected when there is so much to do around the venue.

I participated in the In-Character contest with Korra, which was quite fun to watch. Then I wandered through the dealer's rooms a few times, checked out the flea market but I mostly spent time in the halls making friends or around the park doing photoshoots.

I wouldn't visit a waterpark without doing a Korra photoshoot :)
Eleventhphotograph an I teamed up again for some water filled photos, which will soon be available. Unfortunately, I forgot one of my armbands for my Korra costume at home, so I had to make last minute ones from a tank top and bias tape after a late night shopping trip.

For the most part, the costumes were casual with a few standouts. Here are some of what I spotted over the weekend.

Videographer Andalantie also covered Colossalcon.
Here are his two videos. Part 1 (left) and part 2 (right) with my Korra at 0:40 and 2:55.

Fun with Friends

My friends and roommates made a good con a memorable experience. We had a Korra screening, Disney sing-a-longs, lounging by the pool, racing down the slides, boiling in the hot tub, partying from room to room, midnight fabric shopping, a pot luck dinner; everything was a blast.
